Openings At Amazon India Pvt.
Ltd for Software Development Engineering Testing.
Amazon.com, a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle, Washington,
is the global leader in e-commerce. Since 1995, when Jeff Bezos started
Amazon.com, we have significantly expanded our product offerings, international
sites, and worldwide network of fulfillment and customer-service centers.
Today, Amazon.com offers everything from books and electronics to tennis
rackets and diamond jewelry. We operate sites in the United Kingdom, Germany,
France, Japan, Canada, and China (Joyo.com). A9.com, Inc. researches and builds
innovative technologies to improve search experience for e-commerce
applications. A separately branded and operated subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc.,
A9.com opened its Palo Alto, California, doors in October 2003 and Bangalore
office in August 2004. A9.com's technology powers search on Amazon.com and
other web sites. The A9 India team is primarily geared towards the advertisement
market. As part of A9, we run the Sponsored Links program for Amazon.com. One
can register to the sponsored links program visiting www.clickriver.com. A lot of interesting and
cool technologies have been built around this that includes
• A semi-automated way (automated + manual) of understanding the
category of a website
• Statistical and semantic text mining algorithms to extract the
of a web page for several
languages (English, Japanese, German)
• Building the Dataware house for the advertiser network
• Algorithms around click patterns and detection of invalid clicks
for the
sponsored link market
• Prediction model of the advertisement traffic based on historic
data
The team in India is a good mix of product managers,
analytics/statisticians, text miners, database/warehouse gurus, systems folks
who work together to solve interesting problems in the sponsored link market.
Clickriver saw its Open Beta launch on Nov. 1st, 2006.
The team also delivered the first version of Product News
feature for Amazon.com in April 2005. This feature gets relevant news and

Interview
Process @ AMAZON
Amazon.com receives thousands of resumes every week, from
talented people all over the world. Our challenge is to find the very best and
recruit them into one of the many challenging positions we offer.
Setting the bar high in our approach to hiring has been, and
will continue to be, the single most important element of Amazon.com's success.
During our hiring meetings, we ask people to consider three questions before
making a decision:
• Will you admire this person?
• Will this person raise the average level of effectiveness of the
group they're entering?
• Along what dimension might this person be a superstar?
- Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO, Amazon.com
1998 Letter to Shareholders
The Typical Interview Process
1.
One to two phone interviews
with potential peers or the hiring manager
2.
On-site interview with five
to seven people
3.
Reference and background
checks
4.
Offer or decline call from
recruiter
"I was a little nervous going into the interview,
especially when I was asked to go to the whiteboard in the interview room and
write some code. I felt confident, though, as it became evident that no one was
trying to trip me up or trick me.... They just wanted to see that I could write
great code. I could do that." --A candidate
How
to Prepare
• It's always a good idea to research a company before your
interview.
• Have a pencil and paper available during the phone interview,
especially if you're interviewing for a technical position.
• Request a copy of the job description from the person who
schedules your interview.
• Gather all of your prior company and supervisor information, as
well as contact information for your references, before your on-site interview;
it'll help you fill out your employment application faster.
• Know your own resume, and be prepared to share really specific
examples of the challenges you tackled and the impact you made in prior roles.
• Depending on the job, you should be ready to go to a whiteboard
to demonstrate some of your software-design, logic, planning, or process-design
skills.
• Prepare some good questions for your interviewers. Maybe ask how
their group connects to the larger Amazon.com mission and what projects they're
hoping you might be able to help with--after all, you're here to interview us,
too.
FAQ
How do I apply?
It's easy! First, see the job
description mentioned above and if this matches your profile then send your CV
to us at below mentioned address. One of us will get back to you shortly or
contact us at mentioned below contact details.
What if I don't have a formal
resume to enter into the form?
It's best to write one or have
one done for you, but you can certainly apply without one. Where a resume is
requested, simply enter a brief description of your background, experience
(with dates of employment), educational achievements, and skills. This
information is necessary to evaluate candidates. Applications without this
information cannot be considered.
Wait! I don't want to ask
about jobs. I have a question about my Amazon order. What do I do?
Reach us at below mention
contact details.
Should I send samples of my
work (writing, code, designs, etc.) with my resume?
If you're selected for an
interview, we may request work samples. Please do not include samples with your
application. However, if you have public copies of your work available for
viewing online, please include the Web-site link on your resume.
I wanted to apply for a
position that I saw here, but now it's not listed. May I still apply?
We regularly post new
positions and remove positions that are no longer open or have been filled.
It's ideal when you can apply for a specific position; it makes our process of
reviewing applicants easier. However, you may apply without indicating a
specific open position.
I submitted my resume but
haven't heard from Amazon yet. What's the status of my application?
We search our resume database
regularly and then contact the people we'd like to learn more about.
Unfortunately, we're not able to make personal contact with people who are not
going to be invited in for interviews, but we keep all resumes on file for
several months.
What is your interview
process?
It depends. For most
positions, we begin the process with a phone interview. If there's interest on
both sides, we invite people in for an on-site interview, typically with the
hiring manager and several teammates. Our interview process for University
Recruiting varies.
How should I dress for the
interview?
Amazon has a casual work
environment. Most of our offices are filled with people wearing everyday
clothes. Dress nicely but comfortably. A suit and tie won't impress anyone
here.
How long do you take to make a
decision?
Once we've finished
interviewing all of the selected candidates and completed reference and
background checks, we try to make a final decision within a few business days.
Will you help me with
relocation?
Yes
Do you hire contractors,
temporary employees, or freelancers?
No
I work for an employment
agency, temporary staffing firm, or consulting business. How can I present
applicants to you?
We do not have a general
resume submittable process for agencies not on our preferred list.
